Support Olin Electric Motorsports: Help them Build their Best Car Yet!

On Olin Electric Motorsports (OEM), we are all about our team. Our main goal is to give our members an environment where they feel supported and excited to learn skills that will help them in their future careers.

As one of the largest project teams on campus, we provide this learning experience by designing and building electric race cars. Over the past three years, OEM has built two race cars and competed in two of our most successful competitions as a team.

This year, we are setting our sights even higher, aiming to supplement our members' learning through building our best-performing car yet.

And we need your help to do it!

The 2025 OEM Team Needs Your Help!

Whether it is $5 or $5000, your donation will make a direct impact on the team. From helping us buy snacks for all team meetings to the chassis of our car, every donation makes a difference. Thank you so much for joining us on this journey!

Here are some ways your donation could directly affect our team:

1. Support us in adding a full aerodynamics package to our car. We are undertaking this complex technical challenge for the first time, and it will give our members the chance to learn about aerodynamic principles, CFD, and composite manufacturing. The cost of materials for this exciting challenge amounts to about $2,300, and your donation could help make it possible for our team.

2. Allow us to host team bonding events for our members! On OEM, we aspire to create an environment where people are friends as well as just coworkers. Events like all team bowling, holiday parties, and sub-team bonding are traditions on our team, and your donation would give us the ability to keep those traditions alive.

3. Creation of a new, more advanced data acquisition system for the car. The best way for us to improve our car is to gather information about it, and this brand new electrical system will allow us to do that as well as provide incredible new design experiences to our electrical team. Some examples of new sensors are:

  • Suspension Strain Sensors: $4000
  • Suspension Travel Sensors: $800
  • Infrared Tire Temperature Sensors: $600

4. Standard expenses to build a car. Building a car is expensive and it is with your help that we are able to keep doing it year in and year out. Although we reuse as much as possible from our past cars, some materials like stock and certain parts need to be purchased every year. A few examples of these kinds of items this year are:

  • Steel tube chassis - $10,000-13,000
  • Battery Cells - $3,000
  • Electrical PCB Board - $3,200
